ZAGREB, Oct 14 (Hina) - Croatian deputy health care minister Rajko Ostojic on Saturday evening said that the safety of patients undergoing dialysis in Croatian hospitals was guaranteed. Ostojic said that all structures from the lowest
to the highest, including him, would assume responsibility for the death of 15 patients who died over the past two days in eight Croatian hospitals. On behalf of the Croatian Health Care Ministry and his own, Ostojic expressed condolences to all members of the families of the patients. The deputy health care minister confirmed the investigations was being conducted by investigating judges, the Interior Ministry and the State Prosecutor's Office. The Epidemiology Service received the first information on the
cases of death of patients undergoing hemodialysis late Friday
evening, after which the information was forwarded to the Health
Care Ministry, Ostojic said.
The Ministry reacted immediately upon receiving the information,
in line with the usual standards.
According to the deputy health minister, nobody from the hospitals
informed competent Health Care Ministry officials before late
Friday evening.
