ZAGREB, Aug 23 (Hina) - Representatives of an association for the protection of mothers' rights on Thursday distributed leaflets to Croatian government members urging them to improve the status of mothers. The government has been
urged not to reduce childbirth allowances but return them to last year's level or create conditions for mothers to be able to return to work six months after the birth of their children. This requires an increase in the number of day care centres, the employment of additional staff and more flexible working hours for mothers with small children. Members of the "Stork" association distributed the leaflets in front of the government building ahead of today's session, which is to tackle cuts in social rights, including childbirth allowances. The association "Stork" is a non-political organisation of mothers, fathers and pregnant women. (hina) rml
