He declined to say how many police officers would be deployed in the Croatian capital during the visit of the Holy Father, saying only that enough police would be in the streets.
He ruled out any serious traffic problems adding that traffic in the city would be halted for 30-35 minutes at the longest in periods when Pope Benedcit XVI would be passing through the streets of Zagreb. Changes to the current car parking regime will be introduced in the centre of Zagreb during the weekend.
Pilgrims are advised to arrive in Zagreb's main square by 1800 hrs Saturday for their meeting with the pontiff and they are asked to arrive two hours earlier for an open-air mass to be held on Sunday at the Hipodrom racecourse so that they could pass security checks on time.
Pilgrims are not allowed to carry banners, umbrellas or flags on poles and they are advised to use public transport in order to avoid possible traffic jams.
Also on Wednesday, Zagreb Mayor Milan Bandic said the city was ready to welcome the pope.
