Josipovic pushes for investigating Mladic's role in war crimes in Croatia

Autor: mses
WARSAW, May 27 (Hina) - Croatian President Ivo Josipovic has said that it would be appropriate to consider expanding the indictment which the International Criminal Tribunal for the former Yugoslavia (ICTY) issued against Ratko Mladic in order to include charges for his involvement in war crimes in Croatia.

"Definitely, it would be appropriate to examine Mladic's responsibility for crimes in Croatia. Just remember the horrendous atrocities in Skabrnja. I believe that prosecutors will show good will," President Josipovic told Croatian reporters on Friday in Warsaw, where he had arrived for an international summit.

Asked whether Croatia should now step up calls for the arrest of the sole remaining war crimes fugitive, Croatian Serb rebel leader Goran Hadzic, Josipovic said that "Croatia has always underlined that Goran Hadzic must be brought to justice".

The arrest of Bosnian Serb wartime military commander Ratko Mladic, who was captured in Serbia on Thursday after having evaded justice for 16 years, was only sporadically mentioned on the margins of a summit meeting of heads of state or government of central European countries in the Polish capital.

Josipovic reiterated that Mladic's arrest was a positive development both for Serbia and the entire region and that it would contribute to the improvement of relations in the region.
