ZAGREB, July 14 (Hina) - President of the Croatian Peasants' Party
(HSS) Zlatko Tomcic on Saturday said HSS MPs would support Prime
Minister Ivica Racan's government at tomorrow's session on vote on
confidence in the government.
The HSS members will support the government, Tomcic said after
today's session of the expanded HSS Presidency.
The HSS approves the moves the government took so far in cooperation
with the International Criminal Tribunal for the former Yugoslavia
(ICTY), said Tomcic. The HSS demands of the government to, in
possible trials against Croatian citizens, continue to
persistently defend fundamental standpoints from parliament and
government documents, particularly individual guilt for war
crimes, the party president said.
The HSS Presidency assessed political qualifications and revisions
of historical events which could mean the criminalisation of the
Homeland War and which are possibly included in the indictments as
unacceptable.
Tomcic told reporters the HSS members would vote for a joint
discussion on cooperation with the Hague and confidence in the
government. The two issues are closely linked, Tomcic assessed.
He said members of the government, headed by Prime Minister Racan
were expected at Sunday's session.
Asked what would be done if Sunday's session would not end by
midnight, constitutional deadline for regular session, Tomcic said
there was a solution for everything.
Later he explained he called an extraordinary session for Monday
and Tuesday, thus the parliament would be able to continue its work
after midnight.
