SPLIT SPLIT, June 25 (Hina) - The US Navy destroyer USS Thorn arrived for a friendly visit in Split on Monday. The Thorn, a destroyer of the Spruance class of the largest general-purpose destroyers of the US Navy, is a general-purpose
ship which can operate alone or as part of organised aircraft carrier forces. The USS Thorn is under the command of the US Sixth Fleet and is a member of the USS Enterprise Carrier Battle Group. The ship is 171 metres long and was designed to conduct antisubmarine warfare. It is equipped with the most advanced underwater detention and fire-control systems. The destroyer has a crew of more than 360. The ship's officers, headed by Commander Alfred L. Pope, were received by Croatian Navy Captain Zdravko Kardum.
