BELGRADE, June 5 (Hina) - Serbian Premier Zoran Djindjic today
condemned the writing of Zagreb's weekly Nacional abut cigarette
smuggling, calling such writing as "tabloid chaos" behind which
there are "various interest groups".
Djindjic told a news conference this shows that "we are still not a
part of Europe because in serious European countries ether law
suits would be filed or several dozen people would be arrested if
there was any evidence of the crime".
He called on all who have evidence to forward it to official
bodies.
Djindjic said he was confident the Croatian government "had nothing
to do with Nacional's writing," and this will not set a burden on
relations between the two countries.
In several of its issues Nacional wrote about Djindjic, placing him
in direct involvement with the "cigarette boss of the Balkans"
Stanko Subotic a.k.a. Cane. Yesterday night he told the Studio-B
Television he had no involvement in the "dirty job with
cigarettes".
He did admit he knew Subotic superficially, because the Serbian
government, he said, rented Subotic's aeroplane for cheaper
money.
