SARAJEVO, May 22 (Hina) - The volume of trade between Croatia and
Bosnia-Herzegovina has substantially increased since the
beginning of this year when a bilateral trade agreement took
effect, but the entire economic cooperation is still at a low level,
the head of the Croatian Chamber of Commerce branch in Bosnia,
Miroslav Franjkovic said on Tuesday.
The free trade agreement which has been in effect since the start of
2001, envisages the revocation of tariffs for import of goods from
Bosnia to Croatia, while the Bosnian market will be protected by
gradual cutting of tariffs for imported Croatian products. The
tariffs for the latter will completely been rescinded in 2004.
In the first three months the exports from Croatia to Bosnia
increased by 13 percent as against 2000, while exports from Bosnia
climbed by 78 percent.
In the said period the goods exported from Croatia to Bosnia valued
112 million dollars, while Bosnian exports valued 24 million.
At a news conference, Franjkovic said many unsettled issues in
Bosnia as well as a lack of initiative of Croatian companies were
main reason why Croatians failed to show greater interest in the
privatisation process in Bosnia contrary to Slovenians who had so
far bought practically all what was worth buying.
