ZAGREB, May 12 (Hina) - Exhibitions "Exat 51" and "New Trends", to
open at Centro Cultural de Cascais in Lisbon on May 24, will be the
most comprehensive international presentation of modern Croatian
art in 2001. #L#
The exhibitions, to take place in a reconstructed monastery,
include some 100 works by renowned Croatian artists who shaped
Croatia's cultural landscape in the 50's, 60's and 70's, and of whom
many are still active on the national and international art scene.
The exhibitions consist of three parts: the paintings of Group Exat
51 (1951-1956); works from "New Trends" exhibitions (1961-1973);
and Exat 51 - Half A Century Later.
The main part of the exhibition refers to non-visual art creation in
Croatia in the 50's and 60's. After it abandoned the politically
enforced uniformity of artistic expression, Zagreb of the time
became one of the most important cultural centres in Europe.
Innovations in many fields of art resulted in the establishment of
the Zagreb Musical Biennale, the birth of Croatian avant-guarde
film, the establishment of the Zagreb School of Animated Film and
Croatian graphic and product design of the 50's.
