tournament, to be held on Augusts 5. After the arrest of the Duke of Alka, retired general Mirko Norac, suspected of war crimes committed in Gospic in 1991, in February this year, rumour had it that the "Sinjska Alka" tournament would not be held this year. The "Sinjska Alka" is a traditional three-day tournament held every year in the southern Croatian town of Sinj. The tournament, in which lance - wielding horsemen dressed in traditional outfits match their skills as they target a metal ring suspended over a track, is held every year to mark a local victory over the Ottoman Turks in 1715.
