PRISTINA, April 27 (Hina) - Local Serbs on Friday blocked the Podujevo-Kursumlija and Nis-Pristina road near the village of Merdare on the administrative border separating Kosovo and Serbia in solidarity with Serbs from the north of
the southern Yugoslav province, who are protesting against toll checkpoints. According to Serb reports, the road blocks were organised by the Kosovo Association of Refugees and Displaced Persons. Some 60 trucks and several dozen other vehicles have been set along ten kilometres of the road. It was said the blocks would last until an agreement was reached with the United Nations Mission in Kosovo (UNMIK) on the full revocation of the decision on the toll checkpoints. Serbs in northern Kosovo have been blocking roads for almost two weeks. UNMIK said it was resolute to keep the checkpoints in operation.(hina) ha sb
