ZAGREB, April 24 (Hina) - Meeting representatives of the Croat
Coordination of Bosnia-Herzegovina, Croatian President Stipe
Mesic backed their stances for the necessity of equality among all
three constituent peoples in Bosnia.
The Coordination mostly comprises Croats currently in government
authorities with the exception of the Croatian Democratic Union
party and other parties gathered into the Croat National Congress
which has proclaimed Croat self-rule in the country.
Following the talks, Mesic agreed with stances of the Coordination
that a Constitutional Court decision must be executed, meaning that
both the Federation and Republika Srpska must permanently equally
exhibit the constitutive quality of all three peoples.
"The solution for the Croat people is not isolation but rather the
return of Croats to the entire territory of Bosnia-Herzegovina.
This can be realised," Mesic said.
He said the international community is not against the Croats in
Bosnia. On the contrary, it is for equality of all the three
peoples. "We must fight with arguments and dialogue, not by
opposing the international community. All those following an
illegal path are sure to fail, and the Coordination and all those
who are involved are, I think, doing a good job to the benefit of the
entire Croat corps, and especially to the Croats in Bosnia," he
said.
The Coordination's chairman, Marko Tadic, told reporters the
organisation supports the existing draft electoral law by which
every constitutive people would elect their representatives into
the assemblies' houses of peoples.
Pursuant to the adoption of the electoral law, Bosnia will enter the
Council of Europe, he said, adding this will be followed by an
initiation of changes to the Bosnian Constitution in line with the
European Convention.
"It is our goal to change those constitutional provisions
pertaining to the election of members into the Bosnian Presidency
as we wish every Croat, Bosniak or Serb to be a possible candidate
for the Presidency," Tadic stressed.
