WASHINGTON, April 17 (Hina) - Croatia's Environment Protection
Minister Bozo Kovacevic on Monday held talks with senior US
officials on several ecological projects in Croatia and the work of
national parks.
After the World Bank and some other international institutions
ensured 100 million dollars for a project of the disposal of liquid
waste at the Adriatic, Kovacevic asked his interlocutors in
Washington to support some other projects within the Stability Pact
for South-Eastern Europe.
He and his hosts discussed the issues of the protection of two
southern Croatian rivers (the Neretva and the Zrmanja), waste
management, and the introduction of an information technology
system for the environmental protection.
Kovacevic's interlocutors were Alan Hecht, a manager in the
Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) and Kathryn Washburn, the
director of the international department of the US National Parks
Service (NPS).
In NPS Kovacevic was acquainted with the management over US
national parks and the work of volunteers. NPS is willing to help
Croatia this summer when young volunteers may arrive in Croatian
national parks.
The Croatian official will continue talks on this matter and attend
a UN conference on sustainable development in New York.
