ZAGREB, March 20 (Hina) - Japanese experts from the JICA study team have estimated Croatia should spend 1.26 billion kuna (some $146.5 million) by 2015 to finish a sewerage system and build liquid waste purification equipment to
ensure quality water in the Sava river basin. In a study on the reduction of pollution of the basin along Croatia's largest river, the Japanese experts say the elimination of 18 of 51 industrial polluters would decrease water pollution in the area by 90 percent. The study represents the first stage of a master plan covering 24 locations in the Karlovac, Sisak-Moslavina, and Zagreb counties in which sewerage systems and liquid waste purification equipment will be introduced. By 2007, the purification equipment should be built in Karlovac, Sisak, Kutina, Vrbovec, and Dugo Selo. In the study, the Japanese experts also suggest ways of financing the project. A Japanese inve

purification equipment to ensure quality water in the Sava river
basin.
In a study on the reduction of pollution of the basin along
Croatia's largest river, the Japanese experts say the elimination
of 18 of 51 industrial polluters would decrease water pollution in
the area by 90 percent.
The study represents the first stage of a master plan covering 24
locations in the Karlovac, Sisak-Moslavina, and Zagreb counties in
which sewerage systems and liquid waste purification equipment
will be introduced. By 2007, the purification equipment should be
built in Karlovac, Sisak, Kutina, Vrbovec, and Dugo Selo.
In the study, the Japanese experts also suggest ways of financing
the project.
A Japanese investment bank has offered Croatia a favourable loan
for a 30-year period, with a ten-year grace period and an interest
rate of two percent.
The cooperation with the Japanese experts is the result of an
agreement the Croatian and Japanese governments signed last year,
whereby Japan extended technical assistance with a master plan on
how to deal with liquid waste.
