clinched the overall title of the World Cup in Alpine skiing for the

During the first run of the final giant slalom race, which took
place in Are, Sweden on Sunday, Janica Kostelic's victory was
confirmed, after the fall of Renate Gotschl of Austria, the runner-
up at the overall standings.
At the overall standings, the Croatian teen-age race mustered 1256
points.
Kostelic also won this season's slalom cup within the World Cup,
with eight consecutive victories and one 11th place, i.e. a total of
824 points.
During the season, she gained 204 points in giant slalom races, 124
points in super-G, and four (4) in the downhill race.
Kostelic was also the winner of the only aggregate event this season
which took place in Haus and Flachau, Austria (the aggregate score
of times clocked at one slalom and one downhill race).
Thus, her points totalled 1,256.
The runner-up Renate Goetschl mustered 1,189, while the third-
ranked in the overall standings is French Regine Cavagnout with
1105 points.
Sunday's giant slalom in Are was won by Sonja Nef of Switzerland,
while Kostelic finished as 21st.
