WASHINGTON WASHINGTON, March 10 (Hina) - Numerous guests gathered for Friday's presentation of the web page of the "Roots of Peace" anti-mine association and a reception at the Croatian Embassy in Washington, held on the occasion of
the international week of a mine-ban campaign. Dijana Plestina, an assistant to Croatian Foreign Minister Tonino Picula, spoke about the problem of mines in Croatia and reminded that the war had left the country infested with 1.2 million mines. An advisor to the US President and the Secretary of State on mine removal, Donald Steinberg, thanked numerous volunteers and members of the association for their contribution in the removal of mines. The association's executive manager, Heidi Kuhn, said the "Roots of Peace" had been involved in mine-removal projects in Croatia for two years. With the help of 150 US state and non-government organisations the association has been able to launch an

of the association for their contribution in the removal of mines.
The association's executive manager, Heidi Kuhn, said the "Roots of
Peace" had been involved in mine-removal projects in Croatia for
two years. With the help of 150 US state and non-government
organisations the association has been able to launch an initiative
called "Mines to Vine". One of the most active sponsors of the
project is Croatian emigrant and successful California winemaker
Miljenko Mike Grgich.
The associates and sponsors of the "Roots of Peace" include, among
else, the USA Red Cross, Rotary International, the companies
Federal Express, Hewlett Packard and Warner Brothers, as well as a
number of wineries from California.
Friday's event gathered some 150 guests, including members of the
diplomatic corps, business people and public figures.
