CROATIA'S CANDIDACY FOR ESPOO CONVENTION IN 2004 ACCEPTED

ZAGREB, Feb 28 (Hina) - Croatia's candidacy for hosting the ESPOO Convention (a convention on assessing environmental trans-border effects) in 2004 was accepted at a session of the ESPOO in Sofia, which was also attended by Croatian Environment Protection and Urban Development Minister Bozo Kovacevic, the Ministry reported Wednesday. Along with Poland, by the year 2004, Croatia will be the leading state of subregional cooperation, participants of the convention said. The two-day convention in Sofia gathered more than 130 participants who discussed the work it did in the past two years, and the strategy of implementing provisions of the ESPOO Convention. The Convention binds member countries to inform and advise each other about all projects which could have a significant effect on the environment over borders.
