BELGRADE, Feb 2 (Hina) - Yugoslavia is willing to respect all
relevant European standards concerning the protection of minority,
national, religious, and cultural rights, and actively encourage
the development of national cultures, Yugoslav President Vojislav
Kostunica said in Belgrade on Friday.
He was speaking at the opening of a conference on the development of
a multi-cultural and multinational society.
The adjustment of documents on the protection of minority and human
rights is a precondition for the Federal Republic of Yugoslavia to

Yugoslavia's Minister for National and Ethnic Minorities Rasim
Ljajic said the Belgrade conference marked the beginning of a long-
term project aimed at building a multiethnic and multi-cultural
society. All minority-related issues in Yugoslavia will be solved
in a spirit of tolerance, with full respect of the right to
diversity, he added.
Attending the conference are numerous representatives of
international organisations, state institutions, local self-
government, national communities, non-governmental
organisations, and the diplomatic corps.
