Racan said neither President Mesic nor he saw any problem regarding
a government decision on filing transcripts from the office of the
late president Franjo Tudjman.
The prime minister announced the establishment of a government
commission which will take over the transcripts, minutes and other
materials from the late president Tudjman's documentation.
The commission will establish what the transcripts are about, which
of them are missing and whether it can subsequently be requested
that those who had possibly taken them return them, Racan said.
It will also be established whether the transcripts contain
materials which could serve as evidence or prompt a criminal
investigation.
The commission will take over all documents from the President's
Office and after they are examined send them to the Croatian State
Archive as envisaged by the government decision, said Racan, adding
the documents would not include those referring to defence plans
and similar materials.
The government decision on filing the transcripts, adopted some ten
days ago, prompted reactions from the Office of President Mesic and
the President himself, who said the documents from the President's
Office, especially those necessary for the President's work, could
not be taken to the state archive without the President's consent.
Mesic and Racan today apparently clarified all dilemmas regarding
the government decision and, as Racan said, took the problem off the
agenda.
Racan also said Mesic informed him about his talks in Davos, but
added he was not authorised to report to the public about it.
The prime minister expressed satisfaction with Mesic's reaction at
a meeting with Yugoslav President Vojislav Kostunica regarding
cooperation in the region. Our stand has been confirmed - we support
cooperation, but not integration which would resemble some new
state association, Racan said.
Racan described today's meeting as a regular exchange of
information taking place after the President's short absence from
the country.
