ZAGREB, Jan 23 (Hina) - The Croatian Parliament House of Counties on Tuesday night adopted a government-moved bill on the Croatian National Bank which envisages a high degree of independence for the bank. According to the bill, the
bank's main task would be to achieve and maintain a stability of prices and solvency of the market-bound banking system. The bill sees the cooperation between the government and the central bank as partnership relations, and introduces a prohibition of any form of direct financing of the state. The Upper House also hailed draft amendments to the Law on Housing Savings and its stimulation by the state. State incentives would be paid once instead of several times a year. The MPs also agreed with a bill on agriculture, the basic goal of which is to secure production sufficient for the needs of the population.
