ZAGREB, Jan 23 (Hina) - A Croatian Economy Ministry delegation
visiting Japan on Tuesday held talks with Deputy Foreign Minister
Seishiro Eto on possibilities of Japanese investment in Croatia,
experience in transition, political stability in Croatia and the
region, and Croatia's integration into European structures.
Japan is interested in expanding cooperation in tourism, as well as
in power industry projects, the Croatian ministry said in a
statement.
The delegation, headed by Minister Goranko Fizulic, held talks with
representatives of the Japan External Trade Organization (JETRO)
and its president Yoshihiko Saechi. Fizulic called on this
organisation, which promotes Japan's foreign trade and investment
in overseas countries, to open in Zagreb an office for the entire
region.
During talks with Iwao Matsuda, the deputy economy, trade, and
industry minister, it was said that owing to the unsatisfactory
level of economic relations, it was necessary to work towards
advancing cooperation in joint ventures, transfer technology and
the know-how.
Ecological projects were also mentioned as possible joint
cooperation projects. Japan's companies were invited to take part
in the privatisation of Croatia's power industry, the oil industry
in particular, of shipbuilding, the insurance sector, and hotels.
Minister Fizulic suggested that Japan use the harbour in the
northern Adriatic port of Rijeka, free zones and Zagreb's airport
as Japanese air-company JAL's new connections with Europe.
Fizulic also held a seminar on economy and possibilities of
investing in Croatia for representatives of 60 of Japan's top
companies and banks.
The Croatian delegation wraps its trip to the Far East on Jan. 24.
