BELGRADE, Jan 22 (Hina) - Serbia constituted its new parliament Monday, with Dragan Marsicanin elected as speaker. Marsicanin is member of the Democratic Party of Serbia, the president of which is the incumbent head of state Vojislav
Kostunica. The Serbian parliament was constituted pursuant to elections of December 23. The coalition of opposition parties (DOS) won 176 seats out of total of 250. The newly constituted parliament no longer seats MPs of the formerly strongest opposition party Vuk Draskovic' party Serbian Renewal Movement and Yugoslav left wing party with former Yugoslav president wife Mira Markovic at the helm. The two parties failed to pass the electoral threshold of five per cent. Former ruling parties Milosevic' Socialist party of Serbia and Serbian Radical Party won a total of 60 seats. The late war crimes suspect Zeljko Raznatovic Arkan's the Party of Serbian Unity occupied 14 seats.(hina) sb lml
