The vice-president of the SDP, Sead Avdic, Sejfudin Tokic and Ivo
Komcic, as well as secretary-general Miro Lazovic, informed
reporters about the establishment of a new party and their
resignations in the SDP.
The name of the new party will be known at the founding assembly
which has been announced within a fortnight.
"The formation of this party is not the disintegration of the SDP,
but an attempt to consistently implement the idea of social
democracy," the members of the initiation committee said at a press
conference held during the SDP extraordinary congress.
Lagumdzija told reporters he was not interested in the moves of his,
obviously, former political sympathisers.
His election to the helm of the SDP could jeopardise the post-
electoral coalition with the Party for Bosnia which is crucial for
the formation of the government at the state level. Its coalition
with the Party of Democratic Action or backing into the opposition
is now more probable than alliance with the SDP with which it was in
power in the past two years.
