1992. #L#
The file, read by judge Slavko Lozina, showed that former Lora
inmates had been under investigation on suspicion of armed
rebellion against Croatia and participation in armed conflicts.
Some of them were charged and later in 1992 amnestied. Some have
testified in the trial now being conducted at the county court.
The trial will continue on Monday with the closing arguments of the
prosecution and defence.
Eight former military policemen are charged with crimes committed
at Lora in 1992. Five of them are present at the trial: Tonci Brkic,
Davor Banic, Emilio Bungur, Ante Gudic and Andjelko Botic. They
have pleaded not guilty, claiming that the charges are unfounded.
Tomislav Duic, the first indictee and former head of the Lora
prison, is at large and is being tried in absence. Josip Bikic and
Miljenko Bajic have been at large since August, after they failed to
return to prison following the quashing of a ruling on the release
of the indictees.
