PULA, Nov 7 (Hina) - President Stjepan Mesic said in Pula on
Thursday "there is not one new indictment in Croatia at the moment"
and that he knew nothing about alleged indictments against Generals
Krsticevic, Korade, and Markac. #L#
Mesic visited Pula's Uljanik shipyard and met Istria County prefect
Ivan Jakovcic.
There are only three indictments from the International Criminal
Tribunal for the former Yugoslavia (ICTY), Mesic said. One suspect
is at large, one surrendered to ICTY and is defending himself in
freedom, and the third is General Janko Bobetko, he added.
The President commended retired admiral Davor Domazet, "who has
conducted himself as a honourable officer and will answer every
question from the" ICTY. "This proves that he fought for the
Croatian state and is implementing Croatian laws as a Croatian
citizen," he said.
Commenting on General Bobetko's case, Mesic said somebody could not
claim they had fought for Croatia yet refuse to act on Croatia's
international commitments. In line with the constitutional law on
cooperation with the ICTY, every suspect must answer to the
Tribunal's questions, he said.
It is not brave to hide but it is brave to answer the tribunal's
questions, Mesic stated.
