In a letter extending condolences to the Vojnovic family, Semneby
said he was very saddened and shocked by the sudden death of
Vojnovic with whom, he added, he had closely cooperated since the
establishment of the OSCE Mission to eastern Slavonia.
Semneby said he admired Vojnovic's untiring efforts to make it
possible for the Serb community in the Danube river region to
exercise its rights.
Semneby said he disagreed with media reactions to Vojnovic's
candidacy for a Vukovar County Court judge, stressing that
ethnicity could not be a reason against appointing someone to a
post. Vojnovic was amnestied and as such capable of being employed
in a public office, he added.
Semneby called on Croatian officials to immediately condemn every
form of ethnic discrimination and racial intolerance in
employment.
