The "For a European Montenegro" coalition, comprised of the
Democratic Party of Socialists (DPS), the Social Democratic Party,
and the Liberal Democratic Party, has won 39 seats, scoring the
absolute majority in parliament and gaining the possibility to
independently form the government.
The pro-Yugoslav "For Changes" coalition, which was headed by
Predrag Bulatovic, has won 30 seats, the liberals four, and
Albanian parties two seats in parliament.
Montenegrin President and DPS leader Milo Djukanovic on Monday
morning thanked all those who gave their votes to the winning
coalition, as well as to all who enabled the holding of a
"democratic race and the European concept to win in Montenegro."
Djukanovic said the winning coalition would start forming a
European government right away, and that its following victories
would be economic ones.
The objective is to "eradicate poverty throughout Montenegro and to
make a European and democratic state out of Montenegro over the next
four years," said Djukanovic.
Djukanovic's coalition enjoyed an absolute victory at local
elections in Podgorica as well. The coalition won the majority of
seats in Tivat too, 13, while the Coalition for Changes won 12, the
Croatian Citizens' Initiative five, and SCG two seats.
