Tomcic and his associates will on Monday arrive in China for an
official visit to last several days. #L#
Tomcic is on a return visit at the invitation of the President of the
National People's Congress of China, Li Peng, who visited Croatia
in June 2000.
China has one of the most dynamic economies in the world and is an
unavoidable factor in world politics.
Tomcic and Croatian parliamentarians will first visit Shanghai,
the centre of the Chinese economic wonder and one of the main
generators of the country's annual growth rate of eight percent.
Tomcic is expected to visit Pudong, Shanghai's futurist free trade
zone, which is home to multinational companies and foreign banks
and which symbolises China's opening up to the world and turning to
the market economy.
Tomcic and his associates are also to visit the capital Beijing,
where they will meet their host Li Peng, as well as other
parliamentary and government officials.
The Croatian delegation will wrap up its visit in Hong Kong.
Trade between the two countries is very small and uneven - while
Chinese imports to Croatia amount to 140 million dollars annually,
Croatia's exports to China amount to a mere two million dollars.
