ZAGREB, Oct 12 (Hina) - Associations of homosexuals demand of the
government to endorse a bill on families drafted by the Labour and
Welfare Ministry, which for the first time stipulates some rights
regarding same sex communities. #L#
Even though the bill does not include all of their requests, the
homosexual associations "Kontra" and "Iskorak", along with about
20 non-governmental associations, hailed the bill, saying it was a
step to the complete realisation of constitutional rights on
equality and freedom.
Under the bill, homosexuals would be able to register the same sex
community, and gain right to the support and the right divide joint
property.
The bill does not include requests for the registration of
matrimonial communities among people of the same sex, nor the right
to health and pension insurance through a partner and the right to
adopt children.
The associations believe that the adoption of the law would be of
manifold interests for the Croatian society, because Croatia would
show that by acknowledging recommendations of the United Nations,
the European Union and the Council of Europe, it aspired to the
transformation into a democratic country.
