Tomcic said this explaining the reasons for his trip to Rome. The
Croatian parliament president will at his own request meet the
president of the Italian House of Representatives, Pier Fernando
Casini, and Secretary for the Holy See's Relations Jean-Louis
Tauran.
"The goal of both meetings is to inform Casini and Tauran with the
situation and measures the Croatian government and parliament are
about to take," Tomcic said and added that his trip "is a part of the
overall efforts to obtain better understanding for Croatia's
current activities".
Tomcic said that during his talks in Italy he would reiterate that
Croatia did not want its moves to be interpreted as a wish to
discontinue or obstruct cooperation with the Hague-based
tribunal.
"Our goal is for our partners to understand that we wish to continue
the cooperation, but in this case we all must search for appropriate
solutions," Tomcic said.
Asked about the initiative to travel to Rome, Croatia's parliament
head said that the idea was conceived in the parliament. He
expressed satisfaction that the positive response arrived in a very
short notice.
Commenting on his expectations from the talks, Tomcic expressed
belief that Croatia would receive understanding about the current
situation, but did not wish to speculate about possible results. He
said he would speak about this upon his return.
Also travelling to Italy and the Vatican is the chairman of the
Croatian parliamentary Foreign Affairs Committee, Zdravko Tomac.
The Croatian delegation is scheduled to return on Monday evening.
