Talking to Hina, Western diplomats and military experts who wished
to remain anonymous said that potential back up bases in Bosnia
could be located in Mostar in the south and Tuzla in north.
Considering the attack on Iraq, international officials mentioned
Tuzla where US soldiers within the SFOR contingent have already
been deployed.
The Belgrade region in Serbia with the existing military and
airport facilities inherited from the former Yugoslav People's
Army, according to Western sources, could also be considered as
possible US back up bases.
Officials from the the US embassy in Sarajevo described
announcements on possible US bases in Bosnia and Serbia in case of
an attack on Iraq, as simple guessing which they did not wish to
comment on or speculate on such quotes.
