ZAGREB, Sept 19 (Hina) - The national headquarters of war veterans
has described the accusation of Gen. Janko Bobetko "an expected
move of the Racan-Mesic rule, which wants to equate victim and
aggressor, create conditions for the integration of the Western
Balkans, and thus economically and politically damage Croatia in
the long run."
Asking that Bobetko prove his innocence to someone is absurd and
contrary to parliament's conclusions and Declaration on the
Homeland War, the headquarters said in a statement on Thursday.
The Association of Croatian Homeland War Volunteers and Veterans
has condemned the "sycophantic behaviour by the state and the
government", and demands the government re-examine its cooperation
with the UN war crimes tribunal at The Hague
The HONOS association for the protection of Homeland War values
says that Bobetko is one of the biggest symbols of the Homeland War,
and that indicting him would be tantamount to consenting to the
humiliation of one's own people and a shameful revision of recent
Croatian history.
"Just as it did nothing to protect national interests in the case of
General Ante Gotovina, the government is doing nothing now, and any
indictment against Bobetko would mean that democratic and
sovereign Croatia was created in crime," HONOS says in its
statement.
The Croatian True Revival party maintains it is high time to change
the law on cooperation with the Hague tribunal so that the people
and the country could protect themselves from the policy waged by
President Stjepan Mesic, PM Ivica Racan, and Deputy PM Goran
Granic.
Croatian Bloc - Movement for Modern Croatia demands the government
refuse to act on the UN tribunal's orders.
The Bloc also warns all political parties that by consenting to such
demands, they consent to Croatia's involvement in, organisation
and planning of crimes, bring into question the legitimacy of the
Homeland War and put all of its participants under suspicion.
The Bloc also calls for a referendum on changes to the
Constitutional Law on cooperation with the Hague tribunal.
