The premises were officially opened by Croatia's Foreign Minister
Tonino Picula.
The minister described this event as the confirmation of the
Croatian government's wish to be in touch with as many members as
possible of the Croatian Diaspora in the United States.
During the ceremony, Minister Picula and Croatia's Ambassador to
the United States, Ivan Grdesic, were given the charters of
honorary citizens of New Orleans.
This consulate is the third honorary consulate in the United
States. The first two are in Pittsburgh and Seattle.
Honorary Consul in New Orleans is James Coleman, who on Monday gave
a working dinner gathering the Croatian delegation and some 80
local business people who discussed possibilities for the
enhancement of the business cooperation between the two countries
and in particular between New Orleans and the biggest Croatian
seaport of Rijeka.
