regional office in that eastern town. #L#
The joint use of the barracks is a sign of confidence between the
government and the Organisation for Security and Cooperation in
Europe (OSCE) Mission, the chairman of the government's office for
cooperation with international institutions, Tomislav Vidosevic,
said on Tuesday.
The OSCE Mission has been situated in the Vukovar barracks since
1998 and its arrival in the Danube river region.
OSCE Mission deputy chief Robert Becker said the agreement on the
joint use of the barracks was to the benefit of Vukovar's
residents.
Becker slammed an incident which took place last weekend, when an
unidentified person threw an explosive device at the house of
Vukovar mayor Vladimir Stengl.
The incident is not typical for Vukovar, Becker, stressing that the
OSCE strongly objected to any form of violence. He said that
security in Vukovar over the past five years had improved,
resulting in a higher level of tolerance and respect for the
diversities of the town's residents.
