The Macedonian Interior Ministry said on Wednesday it had issued an
arrest warrant after three former Albanian rebel leaders,
including Ali Ahmeti, a candidate at the elections scheduled for
September 15.
The three Albanians are indicted for war crimes, crimes against
civilians and military prisoners, genocide, terrorism, rebellion,
diversions. They are also charged with jeopardising Macedonia's
territorial integrity.
Ahmeti said that the UN war crimes tribunal (ICTY) was authorised to
deal with indictments such as the one the Macedonian authorities
had issued against him. He said the indictment was unfounded and
added he would make himself available to the ICTY.
