WASHINGTON, July 8 (Hina) - On Monday, the Washington Times
reported about a letter which the Croatian World Congress, an
organisation of the Croatian Diaspora, sent to the UN war crimes
tribunal last week requesting an investigation against the former
U.S administration for its role in the 1995 "Storm" operation. #L#
The daily says the Croatian World Congress asked Carla del Ponte,
the chief prosecutor of the International Criminal Tribunal for the
former Yugoslavia (ICTY), to open the investigation against former
US President Bill Clinton, former National Security Adviser
Anthony Lake, former Deputy National Security Adviser Samuel
Berger, Ambassador Richard Holbrooke and former U.S. Ambassador to
Croatia Peter Galbraith.
A correspondent from Zagreb, Jeffrey Kuhner, reported that the said
organisation was convinced that neither an indictee Ante Gotovina
nor Clinton administration officials were guilty of war crimes with
which General Gotovina, a former Croatian war commander, was
charged by the ICTY.
The Croatian World Congress claims that the 1995 Operation Storm
was carried out after Washington had given the green light for it.
It also claims that the campaign was conducted with the American
political and diplomatic support as well as military and technical
assistance.
