Tomcic and Prvanov fully agreed that the Croatian and Bulgarian
people had century-long friendly ties, which represents a
foundation for good bilateral relations between the two countries
now and in the future.
Seeing that Croatia and Bulgaria share common foreign policy
objectives - accession to the EU and NATO - and both countries have
taken the path of intensifying democratisation of their societies
and market economy, their relations offer opportunities for
successful actions with the aim of stabilising circumstances in the
region, where there are still possible hot spots of instability,
both Tomcic and Prvanov agreed.
Croatia motivates and actively participates in all forms of
regional cooperation in order to achieve long-term stability in the
region. It, however, resolutely opposes regional evaluation in its
aspirations to attain membership to the EU and NATO, the
parliament's press release says.
Prvanov stated that Bulgaria was satisfied with the status the
Bulgarian national minority enjoyed in Croatia, and valued the high
democratic standard that Croatia had established in the field of
national minority rights.
Speaking about the possibilities of economic cooperation between
Croatia and Bulgaria, Tomcic said that they were not exploited
fully, and there was huge potential for closer cooperation,
particularly in agriculture and the metal industry.
Following the meeting, Prvanov gave a speech to MPs in the Croatian
parliament.
