ZAGREB, June 15 (Hina) - Croatian President Stjepan Mesic said on
Saturday that contentious issues in relations with Slovenia could
not be solved at once, but one by one. #L#
President Mesic made the statement after a regular meeting with
citizens at his office.
Regarding the latest claims about a recently initialled Croatian-
Slovene border agreement, Mesic said that all disputable issues
should have been solved prior to the initialling.
"... We cannot solve all open issues with Slovenia at once. One
should decide whether the most difficult or the easiest ones should
be solved first," Mesic said, calling for negotiations.
Asked about current conflicts within the ruling five-party
coalition and Social Democrats' deputy Mato Arlovic's statement
about the possibility of an early election, Mesic said this was
Arlovic's opinion, not the opinion of the Social Democrats or their
leadership.
The President warned about the importance of economic revival and
stimulation of foreign investments. He expects that the process of
employment would be accelerated this summer.
Asked whether the formation of new coalitions on the Croatian
political scene was possible, Mesic said that Arlovic's conclusion
was probably prompted by an argument in the parliament's Justice
Committee or parliament. This does not mean that a new coalition is
being formed, Mesic said.
Asked about the announced rise in the prices of energy products,
Mesic said he did not know if the prices of energy products would go
up and how much, but he hoped that there would not be any major
impacts on the consumers' budgets.
