Djukanovic explained to journalists that the cancellation of his
meeting with Straw was not due to the investigation that the Italian
prosecution had initiated. The Italian prosecution is
investigating Djukanovic for alleged Mafia connections and
cigarettes' smuggling.
"After I had arrived in London, I was informed that Straw had
extended his stay in India. The Foreign Office recommended that I
meet up with the Minister for Southeast Europe but I thought it was
not that vital that I remain in Great Britain for this reason as our
Interior Minister Andrija Jovicevic spoke to him only a few days
ago," Djukanovic said.
He estimated that the cancelled meeting with Britain's Foreign
Secretary would not affect the two countries' relations.
