"I will continue to be Bosnia's lawyer in the EU," Waldner said in
Sarajevo Tuesday after talks with Bosnian Foreign Minister Zlatko
Lagumdzija.
She said that during the past two years in Bosnia significant
progress had been achieved, including the fast return of refugees
and gradual revival of the economy.
The situation in the judiciary and the rule of law is still
unsatisfactory, Waldner said, and added that she expected
significant progress in that area.
Waldner spent two days in Bosnia, including Mostar, where she spoke
with the High Representative to the country, Paddy Ashdown.
On behalf of the Austrian government, she signed an agreement on
assistance worth 1,600,000 marks for the project of refugee return
to Bosanska Posavina.
The project envisages the reconstruction of 66 houses for
returnees, as well as support to an employment programme in the
Derventa and Bosanski Brod municipalities.
