ZAGREB, May 24 (Hina) - Discussions in the plenary section and workshops organised at the International Conference on Education, are exceptionally fruitful and useful for the reform of the education system, Education and Sports Minister Vladimir Strugar told a news conference Saturday. #L# During the two-day conference in Zagreb, presented were projects of changing the Croatian education system. Croatian and foreign experts shared their views about the issue. "We invited international experts to further cooperation in building on our ideas and their realisation," Strugar said. He added that the conference would place education, science and knowledge in the limelight in Croatia. A representative of the Council of Europe, Michaela Chekini, said that the Council would continue to closely cooperate with Croatia and work more in implementing the education reform and passing legislative frameworks. Reform of the schooling system is a lengthy process, whose fruit can be picked in several years' time, an official of the Organisation for Economic Cooperation and Development (OECD), Ian Whitman, said. Gerhard Kowar from the Stability Pact's working group for education and youth said the conference was a great opportunity to present results and conclusions of experts. A total of 220 experts and representatives of institutions in politics and education development, of which 60 were from abroad, participated in the conference. The Education and Sports Ministry organised the conference with the cooperation of the Stability Pact's working group for education and youth, the OECD and the Council of Europe. (hina) lml
