The fact that the conference is being held here in Zagreb is
recognition of the democratic path Croatia is taking, Thierse said
after talking to Croatian parliament President Zlatko Tomcic.
The European Council committed the Croatian parliament with
organising the 16th Conference of Parliamentary Presidents in
Europe which begins in Zagreb on Thursday. The three-day conference
entitled "Democracy Confronted with Terrorism - National
Strategies", will involve about 400 participants amongst whom are
sixty parliamentary presidents or vice presidents.
After the talks with Thierse, parliament President Tomcic
announced that the Bundestag could ratify an Agreement on
Stabilisation and Association between Croatia and the European
Union even before the summer.
The presidents of the two parliaments stated that they exchanged
opinions of overall Croatian-German relations particularly at the
parliamentary level.
