BELGRADE, Dec 19 (Hina) - The trial of suspects for war crimes committed in Ovcara, near the eastern Croatian town of Vukovar, in 1991, could start before the Special War Crimes Court in Belgrade at the end of January or early
February at the latest, Novi Sad-based daily Dnevnik cited "reliable sources" on Friday.
BELGRADE, Dec 19 (Hina) - The trial of suspects for war crimes
committed in Ovcara, near the eastern Croatian town of Vukovar, in
1991, could start before the Special War Crimes Court in Belgrade at
the end of January or early February at the latest, Novi Sad-based
daily Dnevnik cited "reliable sources" on Friday.#L#
All eight suspects, charged with war crimes against prisoners of war,
are in detention.
According to the indictment, the eight committed the crimes on
November 20 and 21, 1991 at the Ovcara farm. At the time, they were
members of the Serb Territorial Defence which was art of the Yugoslav
People's Army. The eight suspects violated the laws and customs of war
and acted contrary to the international law and the Geneva
conventions.
They formed an exuctuion platoon and executed prisoners of war, the
indictment said.
