This summit is unique, Annan said in his address. In times when
global conferences focus on global threats, this conference will
tackle how best to exploit global goods, he said.
The summit, which is held under Annan's auspices, has pooled
representatives of more than 120 countries and representatives of
various international organisations, NGOs, media, and civil
institutions.
The conference should serve as a global platform for a debate on the
best ways of exploiting information technology for development.
Croatian President Stjepan Mesic is attending.
