ZAGREB, Dec 1 (Hina) - Croatian Bloc (HB) president Ivic Pasalic has
ascribed his party's failure at the recent parliamentary elections
to omissions made by the HB and a systematic media blockade to which
the party had been exposed in the past two months. #L#
"Two months before the election, it was impossible for the HB to
express its position via the media," Pasalic told a news conference
on Monday.
Pasalic said that the negative attitude of the media towards the HB
was evident in opinion polls which predicted the party's failure at
the ballot. As a result, many potential voters for the HB decided to
vote either for the Croatian Democratic Union (HDZ) or the Croatian
Party of Rights (HSP) in fear of wasting their votes if voting for a
party that would not pass the election threshold, he said.
Although not satisfied with its election results, the party will go
forward, as it has been conceived as "a long-term recognisable
project", he added.
Pasalic announced electoral conventions for the party in January
and February next year, and congratulated HDZ leader Ivo Sanader on
winning the parliamentary ballot.
The HB had six seats in the previous Sabor after Ivic Pasalic and his
supporters left the HDZ. At the last parliamentary ballot it failed
to win the minimum of five percent of votes in any of the
constituencies. The HB ran in the elections in a coalition with the
Croatian True Revival (HIP) in 11 constituencies and gained on
average 1,28 percent of votes.
