ZAGREB, Nov 29 (Hina) - Explaining his statement that the programme
of government-sponsored house-building would be scrapped,
Croatian Democratic Union (HDZ) vice president Ivan Suker told
reporters on Saturday the programme had not given the results that
had been announced at its start, and that the HDZ would offer a model
that was acceptable to every young family. #L#
Suker said the programme had failed to meet expectations because,
among other things, the prices of flats, notably in cities, had
skyrocketed instead of dropping due to the bigger offer.
Projects that have been started will continue, he went on to say,
adding that a report should be submitted on exactly how many flats
had been built under the programme.
Suker also urged going public with how some 300 million kuna
(EUR39.5 million) that was to be spent on the programme was actually
spent.
These are not announcements of inspections, but the new government
will advocate a far more transparent model of spending budgetary
funds, he said.
