ZAGREB, Nov 4 (Hina) - An average 34 candidates will run for one seat in the Croatian parliament, seven more than at the 2000 parliamentary elections, when there were an average 27 candidates for one seat.

in the Croatian parliament, seven more than at the 2000
parliamentary elections, when there were an average 27 candidates

The biggest competition is in constituency No. One -- the heart of
Zagreb -- where 41 slates have been submitted, as opposed to 32 in
2000.
The smallest number of slates has been submitted in constituency
No. 11 -- the one for the diaspora -- where 23 are in the running, two
more than in 2000.
The biggest increase in the number of slates from 2000 has been
registered in constituency No. Two, which covers Koprivnica-
Krizevci, Bjelovar-Bilogora and Zagreb counties, and eastern
Zagreb. Thirty-seven slates have been submitted for the November 23
polls as opposed to 23 in 2000.
This year between four and nine more slates than in 2000 have been
submitted in all other constituencies.
A total of 5,155 candidates, including 42 from ethnic minorities,
will run in this year's ballot, as opposed to 4,006 in 2000.
Every 808th Croatian citizen will appear on slates of nearly 4.2
million eligible to vote.
