minorities. #L#
A total of 3,399 candidates have been nominated.
Some 20 percent of the candidates are women, the youngest candidate
is 18 years old and the oldest 86.
The lists of the Social Democratic Party (SDP) and its coalition
partners were submitted to the Commission by SDP vice-president
Mato Arlovic.
The SDP has entered coalitions with Libra in four constituencies,
with the Liberal Party (LS) in three constituencies, and with the
Istrian Democratic Assembly (IDS) in one constituency.
LS president Ivo Banac, Libra leader Jozo Rados, and IDS secretary-
general Emil Soldatic submitted their party lists together with
Arlovic.
Answering a reporter's question, Arlovic said that Prime Minister
Ivica Racan's illness was not the reason the SDP and its partners
were late in submitting their slates (contrary to media
speculations). He confirmed that Racan's condition was good and
that he would be back at work tomorrow.
The SDP does not have a list for expatriate Croatians nor did it
nominate minority candidates.
