"Fourteen years from the establishment of Croatia, we need a new
unity because people of destruction are on the scene today," Tomac
said.
Croatia is facing major dangers because of two large blocs ready for
extinction to the detriment of citizens, he said, adding that his
option wished to change that. He voiced confidence that his
civilised, democratic and patriotic option would succeed in the
election.
Presenting the candidates on his independent slate, Tomac said they
were non-partisan people, including the founders of the Croatian
Democratic Union and the Social Democratic Party who he added
wished to show that they can act in concert when the good of Croatia
is at stake.
"Even though we are very different, we are very much in agreement
and we are all Croatian patriots," Tomac said, announcing a fight
against those who want Croatia to have no national identity as well
as against chauvinists.
He declined to predict his slate's election results. The slate
includes Croatia's war-time prime minister Franjo Greguric, three
war-time government ministers, Davorin Rudolf, Josip Juras and
Ivan Majdak, and the then president of parliament and incumbent
ombudsman Ante Klaric.
