Opening the session on sector management and cooperation, Italian
Culture Minister Giuliano Urbini said that his country had adopted
legislation regulating cooperation between the state and the
private sector in culture. He said that this cooperation enabled
the establishment of joint foundations, facilitated donations,
primarily through tax relief, and bolstered cooperation in
projects outside the country.
The Austrian state secretary for art and the media, Franz Morak,
said European cultural diversity was a treasure, however, Europe
still did not know how to employ it. He said that the preservation of
diversity was a difficult task in times of brands and trademarks and
called for promoting the good sides of globalisation, primarily
cultural diversity.
The conference today discussed cultural and minority policies,
intercultural and interreligious dialogue, migrations,
preservation of identity and cooperation between public and
private sectors and civil society.
The Opatija conference is attended by 32 culture ministers from 48
countries. They are expected to adopt a declaration on the role of
culture ministers in building intercultural dialogue in conflict
prevention tomorrow.
